Fire bans return, fire danger is extreme

Fire bans and advisories are returning on both sides of Lloydminster as the interactive wildfire map for western Canada shows the danger level being extreme in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

For areas east of Lloydminster, fire bans and/or restrictions are in effect for Mervin, Britannia, Eldon, Edam, Manitou Lake, Hillsdale, Cut Knife, Frenchman Butte, Loon Lake, Meadow Lake among others.

For areas west of Lloydminster, fire advisories and/or restrictions are in place for Beaver County, Edgerton, and Two Hills.

In the County of Vermilion River, a partial fire ban is in effect. This still allows recreational campfires, burning barrels with screens, and approved incinerators. However, open burning requires a fire permit.

There is a fire ban in the Wainwright Dunes Ecological Reserve.

In Alberta, and Saskatchewan, there are fire bans and restrictions at provincial parks and the use of ATVs may also be restricted in forested areas. Check local conditions ahead of time.

Advisories are subject to change as local municipalities adjust to the dry conditions on the Prairies.

Monitor conditions in Alberta and Saskatchewan using the provincial fire maps.
