Lloydminster Lion’s hosting international campers for summer

The Lloydminster’s Lions will be hosting some campers this summer with about 30 young people from around the world who will be visiting Canada for about three weeks.

Darryl Oster, youth and camp chairperson says the camp is July 6-12 in two locations around North Battleford and Saskatoon.

“We have kids from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Indonesia, Mongolia, the States and Saskatchewan signed up.”

So far there are 16 international campers signed up and some of the kids will be based in Lloydminster during the time. The Lions are looking for about five more host families between June 30 to July 20.

“If there is anybody interested in hosting an international student we are looking for a handful of more people,” says Oster. “If anybody wants to donate food or gifts. We are expecting 30-40 kids.”

Oster adds the main thing is finding places for the campers to stay as they will be here a week before the camp and have another week in Canada after the camp before they fly out.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
