Prairie North Health Region celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week has kicked off today. The weeks runs annually in Canada from October 1st to October 7th, to protect, support and promote breastfeeding as the best way to feed infants. Public Health Nutritionist with the Prairie North Health Region Stacey Wiens says breastfeeding provides health benefits to children, including reducing their risk of diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and even some forms of cancer. Mothers also tend to benefit from breastfeeding, as they reduce their risk of ovarian cancer. If anyone has any questions about breastfeeding, they are encouraged to call Lloydminster’s lactation consultant.
