Revving the engines, jamming the tunes

Another Lloyd Comp Car and Truck Show is in the books and as always the students in auto-mechanics got to show off their hard work to the school community with topped up engines and banging sound systems.

This year the event was held in the carpark next to Armstrong Field in front of the new school gym, Synergy Place -Home of the Barons.

Staff coordinator, Victoria Oldershaw says supporters like Jus Kruzin’ and Paradise Garage who help with the judging noted the vibe was spot on for the event.

“The kids that compete in this event are not kids who are on sports teams and such. This is a niche thing for kids to be involved in. And then the whole school body gets to take part in it.”

Some 20 students took part in the contest and Oldershaw says about half of these will continue in the auto-mechanics field.

“Our judges said these kids were so polite and positive about their cars, and knew their stuff.”

The students meet a couple days before the contest for  a safety meeting and they prepare for the questions that the judges will be asking. They may have the nicest car but they still have to talk about it when the judges show up.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
