Filipino Fest at Bud Miller, June 21

One of the biggest events of the summer will host some 4,000 people at Bud Miller Park on June 21 for the 4th Annual Filipino Fest.

Organizers with the United Filipino-Canadians in Lloydminster and Surrounding Area say the theme is “Pinoy Ako, Saan Mang Bahagi Ng Mundo” – Promoting Unity and Camaraderie among Filipino-Canadian Community by Knowing by Heart, Philippine custom, tradition and culture.”

“This celebration is the tie that binds Filipinos from a region or an area together, a time to reunite with our extended family and our kababayans (countrymen). It is a time to rejoice in friendship, share our blessing and showcase the Filipino talent,” notes Dowsan Antonio, event planner.

Set up of vendors areas will begin after 5:00 a.m. in preparation for the parade at 9:00 a.m. The day’s cultural festivities run until 10:00 p.m. with the clear up period going until the park closes at 11:00 p.m.

The group includes some 20 Philippine provincial groups, Filipino-Canadian churches, organizations, fraternities, sports club, employee/friends group and other volunteer groups in the City of Lloydminster and area.

“It is a time to rejoice in friendship, share our blessing and showcase the Filipino talent,” says Antonio.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
