Man held in Nova Scotia faces sex charges with a minor in Lloydminster

A 29-year-old man is facing charges related to sex offences involving a minor.

The suspect, Travis James Birt, who is originally from PEI travelled to Lloydminster to have more opportunity to engage in sexual behaviour, say investigators.

Lloydminster RCMP received a complaint in March and began its investigation.

On May 27, Birt was arrested at a home in Nova Scotia by local RCMP following a Canada-wide warrant.

Investigators say that Birt used Snapchat to send images to potential victims.

Birt was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He will return to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan Court on Monday, June 9.

He is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

RCMP have released a picture of Travis James Birt so that anyone who has more information or feel they have been a victim may come forward.

You may contact the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400. If you wish to remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
