Charges pending against Lloydminster suspect in chop shop operation

A Lloydminster suspect who police held at a Kitscoty area mechanic shop has charges pending after police say the individual was cutting up cars in the shop that were reported as stolen.

On May 27, Kitscoty RCMP received a report of stolen truck parts being sold on Facebook Marketplace.

Kitscoty RCMP, with assistance from Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and Alberta RCMP Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, conducted an investigation which resulted in a search warrant being executed at a mechanic shop in the Kitscoty area.

Investigators report that the suspect was stealing the vehicles and cutting them up at the business in order to sell the parts.

Four stolen vehicles and one stolen license plate were recovered, which investigators say were taken from Lloydminster, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Maidstone.

A 29-year-old Lloydminster resident was arrested and has since been released.

They charges that are pending are:

  • Four counts of Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking
  • Trafficking of stolen property under $5,000

The charges could be laid in the next week, according to RCMP. The individual is scheduled to return to Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on August 12.
