Sometimes it’s more than what’s cooking on the grill that brings people out. Lloydminster seniors are grilling for a new seniors facility to replace the Jubilee Home, which Saskatchewan has agreed needs replacing.
However, they have taken to a letter-writing campaign to get the province to sign off on the urgency to replace the dated structure, as Saskatchewan is behind on supplying beds for the senior population. This on top of hosting a barbecue on Thursday, June 12, outside the Jubilee Home.
The Lloydminster Concerned Citizens for Seniors Care has sent the proposal to replace the Jubilee Seniors Home to the Lloydminster and District Health Advisory Council, Alberta Health Services, and Saskatchewan Health Authority.
Lloydminster currently needs 60 more spaces, according to AHS and SHA. Also, the need will climb to 148 spaces by 2035.
The 50-bed Jubilee Home facility was built in 1985 to replace a previous building from 1958. The proposed replacement will have 180 spaces.
The seniors will be flipping patties and turning hot dogs on the grill from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Residents are invited to come by the Jubilee Home for a visit and add their signatures to the petition to support a new seniors facility on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster.

The Lloydminster Concerned Citizens for Seniors Care will hold its AGM on June 16.
