The calendar date of June 21 is perpetually engraved as Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada and the Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre has special activities planned for the occasion.
“This day holds deep meaning for Indigenous communities across the country. It is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the rich history, diverse cultures, languages, and traditions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Falling on the summer solstice, the longest and most powerful day of the year, this date is especially significant. For many Indigenous cultures, it symbolizes renewal, hope, and a new season of life,” says Deborah Munroe, Executive Director, Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre.
Activities begin with lunch at noon, followed by an afternoon of cultural programming including Powwow and Jig dancing. Activities conclude with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.

There is also an artisan market that will be on during the entire day.

The day wraps up about 7:30 p.m.
