Lloydminster RCMP arrest quartet on weapons charges

Four people will have their say in court after Lloydminster RCMP issued gun related offences following a report of people acting suspiciously.

On June 18 at about 9:00 p.m., Lloydminster RCMP received a call reporting several individuals acting suspiciously near a downtown business.

When officers arrived they found four people matching the description provided by the caller.

Officers state finding that the individuals had firearms in their possession.

While three were arrested without incident, the fourth was later found in Onion Lake. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms, including two loaded rifles, ammunition and other weapons.

Shauna Couston, 25-years of Fort McMurray, Germain Gamble 26-years of of Onion Lake, Kyle Soosay 35-years of Kehewin Cree Nation, Alberta, and Aimery Thunderblanket 21-years of Sweetgrass First Nation were charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Weapons possession contrary to an order
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon
  • Resisting arrest
  • Possession of fentanyl

Gamble, Soosay and Thunderblanket were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody pending their next court date.

Couston has been released on conditions and is due in the Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 15.

“We’re thankful for the vigilance of community members who reported this suspicious activity,” said Corporal Christopher Byford, Support Operations NCO, Lloydminster RCMP. “This swift response prevented a potentially dangerous situation and highlights the importance of public cooperation in keeping our city safe.”
