Alberta Next coming to Lloydminster, Aug. 27

A busy summer calendar has another event packing in with Alberta Next coming to Lloydminster on Aug. 27.

While the venue won’t be announced until two weeks before, Premier Danielle Smith and the panel will be in the Border City for an in-person session.

Matters like an Alberta Pension Plan to replace the Canada Pension Plan, an Alberta Police Service rather than the RCMP, immigration, withdrawing from the federal tax system and having Albertans pay taxes in the province, federal transfers and equalization, and any constitutional changes that Albertans want will be shared at the in-person sessions, according to event planners.

The 15-member panel comprises UCP MLAs, economists, a retired judge, among its analysts.

While taking aim at what it calls Ottawa’s policies against Alberta, the panel states on its website that it wants to strengthen Alberta’s sovereignty in a united Canada.

Policy ideas distilled from the Alberta Next could be on a referendum ballot in summer 2026.

More details to attend in-person, virtually, or to take a survey are available online.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
