A minor fire at Grace United Church in downtown Lloydminster engaged the efforts of Lloydminster fire crews on Thursday, July 3.
The call went out just before 1:30 p.m. and fire officers dealt with the blaze in about two hours. Two fire trucks were used in the effort.
“The call came in at about 1:18 p.m., with crews arriving within three minutes. Initial reports indicated alarms sounding, and the call was upgraded to a third-alarm response due to smoke in the building. The minor fire produced significant smoke and left residual extinguisher powder throughout the building,” says the City of Lloydminster.
Damage while minor, seems confined to one area. But the smell from the fire is present even as the building appears intact.
Church staff and volunteers are preparing for numerous summer activities including baking pies for its booth for the Lloyd Ex Fair from July 9.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
