Vermilion RCMP have arrested a local resident following an investigation into child pornography and online luring.
On September 9, 2025, Alberta’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit was notified by the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin about a Canadian male allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to a youth under 18, along with soliciting and sharing intimate photos.
Working with Lloydminster RCMP’s General Investigation Section, ICE assisted in the investigation, which led to the arrest of a Vermilion resident on November 19. Officers also seized child pornography during the operation.
The individual faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code, including possession, distribution, and creation of child pornography, as well as luring a child. The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on December 15, 2025.
Online Safety Tips for Parents
Police are reminding parents to talk to their children about online safety and the risks of online luring. Here are some key tips:
- Explain what online luring is and why it’s a crime.
- Teach youth to recognize red flag behaviors and unsafe situations.
- Discuss strategies for ending uncomfortable conversations, such as blocking or deleting contacts.
- Emphasize the importance of seeking help from a trusted adult or resources like needhelpnow.ca.
- Review real cases together to identify warning signs and discuss safe responses.
“The best solution to ensure our children are safe online is education and prevention,” said Cpl. Brittany Pegg, Acting Detachment Commander of Vermilion RCMP. “If you don’t know about your children’s online presence, start asking questions.”
