Waste Reduction Week aims to get Lloydminster residents thinking about recycling

The city of Lloydminster has declared October 20-26 Waste Reduction Week. The goal of the week is to get Lloydminster residents to think about how to reduce the amount of garbage that goes to Lloydminster’s landfill. In the past three years, Lloydminster has been able to divert 41% of total waste away from landfills, compared with 17% before the curbside diversion program.
The city has also set up a challenge for Lloydminster families that can be found on the city’s website. The challenge is a quiz on which products are recyclable, which children can colour. Completed challenges can be dropped off to City Hall by November 5th. A winner will be picked from each collection zone to receive a year’s worth of blue bags and compostable bags, as well as a $50 gift certificate to Future Shop.
