E.S Laird sets North American test-drive record

A new test-drive record has been set by E.S Laird Middle School.

The school held a test-drive fundraiser with Westridge Buick GMC on September 29, with a goal of getting 600 drives during the event.

However, they surpassed their goal and set a new North American record with 695 drives in one day. On Friday, they received a $10,000 cheque for their efforts.

“It’s an awesome feeling for us and our school. We are super excited about getting the $10,000,” said Stacey Klisowsky, principal at E.S. Laird Middle School.

Jason Mills, who is the sales manager of Westridge, was on hand at the school during the cheques presentation, and spoke about the success with the press after giving over the money.

“The average amount given out in this program is somewhere between $2-3,000,” said Mills

“When we started working with it two years ago we said ‘you know if we are going to do it, typical Lloydminster, let’s make sure we get the most amount of money,”.

Mills also indicated that he was not surprised by the response.

“I mean it’s Lloydminster,” said Mills.

“You can’t do something in Lloydminster without getting support, and when there is something so near and dear to everybody’s heart like their child’s school, and when they get a chance to help out and really not have to spend any money, just show up and drive a nice brand new vehicle and give the school money, it’s a pretty good deal.”

According to Klisowsky, the money will be going towards the outdoor beautification of the school grounds.

“We have a lot of space around our school, but not a lot of space for the kids to sit and hangout,” said Klisowsky.

“We want to get some funk, cool kind of areas that they can use to sit over the noon hour, during breaks or after school.”

She also thanked the entire community for their contribution to the fundraiser.
