Roughrider Joe McKnight shot dead in New Orleans

Saskatchewan Roughrider running back Joe McKnight is dead after being shot in New Orleans.

The incident reportedly was due to road rage. The man who said he shot McKnight, 54 year old Ronald Gasser, is in police custody.

The team has issued statements in the wake of McKnight’s death.

“We are saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Joe McKnight,” said Riders president and CEO Craig Reynolds in a release. “Losing a member of our Rider family this way is an unthinkable occurrence. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s family, teammates and coaches.”

McKnight is the second CFL player to be shot and killed this year, after Calgary Stampeders player Mylan Hicks was shot in Calgary.
