The province has approved two new petrochemical plants under its royalty credit program. Both will be built in Alberta’s Sturgeon and Strathcona Counties north of Edmonton and should be operational by 2021.
The first is a joint venture between Pembina Pipeline and Petrochemical Industries in Sturgeon, that will get up to $300 million in royalty credits. The $3.8 to $4.2 billion facility will reportedly create 2,000 to 2,500 jobs during construction, and 150 once open.
The second plant in Strathcona will be built by Inter Pipeline. They’ll get up to $200 million in credits for the $1.85 billion facility. At the peak of construction, they’ll create 2,000 jobs, leading to 95 once done.
