Westbound Highway 16 shut down from Lloydminster to Vermilion

UPDATE #2: According to the City of Lloydminster, sanding crews are out in the community, with another crew starting at 10 p.m.

Graders and plow trucks will be sent out at 4 a.m. and sanders will be out at 8 a.m. The City is also asking for all residents to avoid non-essential travel.


UPDATE: According to Manitou Fire and Rescue, Highway 40 from the junction of Highway 17 to the town of Cutknife is closed. The fire service has asked residents to avoid traveling, for the sake of everyone’s safety.


Highway 16 is being closed between the western edge of Lloydminster and Vermilion.

According to Bill Healslip, the operations manager for Alberta Transportation, police are in the process of closing off the road. A barricade will be set up, blocking traffic along the route due to the unsafe traveling conditions.

Travel is currently not recommended east, between Maidstone and the Border City.
