Frog Lake/Fishing Lake Youth Justice Receives Grant to Formalize Restorative Justice Committee

Frog Lake/Fishing Lake Youth Justice is one of 16 organizations receiving a grant to help support restorative justice initiatives from the Government of Alberta. They will be using the $7,000 grant to formalize a restorative justice committee to work with probations, the Crown, police and the community.

Restorative justice programs are used as an alternative or as an addition to any sentence and can be started at any point during the criminal justice process. They focus on rehabilitating offers through reconciliation with both the victims and the community.

“These provincial grants enable organizations to help give victims a voice, while allowing offenders to repair the harm caused by their actions. Restorative justice is an innovative approach to ensure both victims and the community are a part of the resolution of conflict,” says the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Kathleen Ganley.

Funding is available each year through the Alberta Community Restorative Justice program for:

  • Incorporated non-profit and/or volunteer organizations
  • Coalitions
  • Local community groups
  • Indigenous organizations
  • Youth justice committees sanctioned by the Government of Alberta
