People at risk of contracting measles

The measles has been spotted in central Alberta and Alberta health services are warning people abut potential exposure. People who were at an elementary school and medical clinic in Red Deer and a master builder centre could be at risk. People are reminded to monitor themselves if at risk of developing measles and look for high fever, a cough and runny nose and a red blotchy rash. Measles is an extremely contagious disease, spread easily through the air. Though there is no treatment for measles, it can be prevented through immunization. In Alberta, measles vaccine is offered, free of charge, through Alberta’s publicly funded immunization program. Children in Alberta typically receive their first dose of measles vaccine at 12 months of age, and their second dose between the ages of four and six years.
