Vivint is allowed to conduct door-to-door sales once again in Lloydminster.
A suspension was first put in place on July 17, following residents raising concerns about the company’s door-to-door sales practices. A month later the City decided to continue the suspension until a plan was provided.
On Saturday the plan to improve door-to-door sales practices was presented and with feedback from the City it was finalized.
“[The plan] entails how they relate their business cycles to the city and they will contact someone prior to them coming to the city and advise us of the sales team and the contact numbers. Then they came with an action plan in the door way and they key action plan is they will identify their sales reps at the door and if a resident does not choose to participate in the sales they will leave immediately,” says City Clerk Doug Rodwell.
While there isn’t a probationary period, Rodwell says “if we have issues with any door-to-door business, we would not hesitate to re-enact the provisions of the bylaw that we used to suspend the business license previously.”
If residents have concerns or complaints with door-to-door sales practices they are urged to contact the City’s bylaw department.
Rodwell adds, “Vivint has apologized to the city and said they would work to ensure situations like this do not occur again. We are satisfied the plan meaningfully addresses residents concerns; therefore, company’s business licence has been lifted.”
