EXTREME COLD WARNING IN EFFECT FOR LLOYDMINSTER AND AREA

An extreme cold warning is being issued as temperatures plummet below minus 30.

The warning is in effect for most of North-Central Alberta, including Lloydminster, Wainwright and Vermilion. The extreme cold is expected to last for the rest of the week.

Environment Canada says the cold puts everyone at risk as temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated health risk because of frost bite and hypothermia. Residents are urged to bundle up if they have to go outside and watch for cold symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

People are also reminded that if  it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

A full list of the areas where the warning is in effect can be found on Environment Canada’s website.
