Salvation Army reminding residents of the need after Christmas

As the Salvation Army Lloydminster packs up their kettles for another year, they are reminding residents that needs in the community don’t go away.

Major Lisa O’Doherty says that they usually see a slowdown in donations after the holidays, and there are many reasons for this.

“After Christmas they get busy back to life, kids go back to school, people go back to work and maybe the need isn’t right in front of them as much.”

O’Doherty says in the new year the Salvation Army needs non-perishable food items for their food bank and money donations could help them open new programs in 2018. She says she hopes the new online and mobile aspects help meet the need.

“It always takes a little while for something new to catch on but I think if we can get the word out there that these new online options are available I think the interest and the use of those will pick up.”

O’Doherty adds that she thanks the community for all their help and donations over the holiday season.
