Pet licenses mandatory in Lloydminster

The Lloydminster and District SPCA is reminding residents that if they own a cat or dog it needs a license.

The identification is a yearly license which allows the SPCA or the city to identify who owns the pet, It is mandatory under city by-laws even if the animal is an indoor pet. The license covers to December 31st and residents could be subject to fines without it.

SPCA Executive Director Jon Punshon says this program is beneficial to pet owners.

“The benefit of the license is if an animal comes in to the SPCA and with a current license then we have a way to contact the owner to let them know the animal has come in and that way we can get them back to the owner as quick as possible.”

Punshon adds that the proceeds from the licences go to necessary resources.

“Anytime you purchase a license for your pet goes back to the support the SPCA. That goes towards allowing us to continue to provide services to care for the animals that aren’t reclaimed by their owners.”

Pet licenses can be purchased at the Lloydminster and District SPCA or at any veterinarian clinic in Lloydminster.
