Hockey Hooky packs the Centennial Civic Centre

The Centennial Civic Centre saw the stands packed with local kids skipping school for a hockey game.

The program was part of the Lloydminster Bobcats’ first “Hockey Hooky Day.” The Lloydminster Public School Division teamed up with the Bobcats to have 1,400 students from grades 3 to 6 into the Civic Centre for a noon game against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

Director of the LPSD Hockey Academy Lance Ward says the Hockey Hooky was a great experience for the kids.

“I think the real cool aspect of this is that there’s five kids from Lloyd playing in the game today, three that were in the Hockey Academy. So what a super cool mentor-ship piece to see these kids follow their dreams and go to play junior hockey and hopefully further their education through the game of hockey.”

Ward also explained that it’s very important to blend hobby and education together.

“I believe that whether its the arts, or whether its the computers or sports I believe that giving kids an extra opportunity to follow their passion areas is something that I strongly believe in.”

The Bobcats organization has said they may look at doing this event again in the future.
