Thorpe Recovery Centre asking residents to take a night off

The Thorpe Recovery Centre is wanting residents to take a night off from the hustle and bustle while supporting a good cause.

The second annual Night Off event is asking people to take a night off from dressing up, grabbing a babysitter and going out. Instead the centre is asking for a donation to their treatment fund. Business Development Assistant Sara Fox says there is a huge need for funding for addiction treatment.

“Right now were only able to help one in five people who as for help and that’s just because there is a lack of private and public funding for addiction treatment. So it’s heartbreaking for us to not be able to bring everybody in.”

The majority of funding needed is for their medically supported detox program and 42 day residential addiction treatment program. Fox says both programs are essential for recovery for their patients.

The event is not an actual event, meaning that people who donate can do what they like on that evening, for example go to a movie or stay in to watch Netflix. Fox says they formed the donation into an event so people will support the initiative while practicing self care.

“We’re all really busy and here at Thorpe we promote self care for our clients and for our staff. Self care is really important for staying healthy.”

The event is taking place May 1 and tickets are available at the Thorpe Recovery Centre.
