Local non for profit receives over $20,000 to fund family advocacy services

Inclusion Lloydminster is the lucky recipient of a $20,100 cheque that they say will go towards hiring more staff to increase their family advocacy services.

President of Inclusion Lloydminster Robin Acton says they advocate on behalf of people with disabilities and their families to ensure that they have a good life and community support.

“We believe that young children should be able to go to their neighbourhood schools along with their peers, they should be welcomed and able to participate in all the typical recreational activities all other young people do.”

The local non for profit was one of three organizations in Lloydminster that were selected to speak about their services and what they would so if they received the proceeds. Acton says that one of their most urgent needs is to increase family advocacy services in order to respond more quickly to families in crisis.

“Many times families and individuals come to our organization requesting assistance and without enough staff sometimes we can’t get to people as quickly as we would like to. So we will be hiring more family advocacy staff.”

The money was raised by members of 100 Women Lloydminster, who hosted an awards night Wednesday, where the recipient of the proceeds was chosen.
