Oilers to host annual hockey clinic in Lloydminster

For the first time, Lloydminster will play host to the 10th annual Oilers Hockey Clinic.

The Edmonton Oilers will be bringing their version of a hockey school to the City for a weekend, in an effort to develop grassroots hockey across Alberta. Senior Manager of Fan Development for the Oilers Brad Ellard says the whole weekend is about adding value to the already existing community initiatives in Lloydminster.

“Ultimately, I want the kids to have fun and enjoy themselves and if they can progress their hockey careers a little bit and learn some new tricks or skills that would be great, but overall we just want to promote a healthy, happy lifestyle.”

The kids will learn more than on ice skills with yoga sessions, physiotherapy and concussion management classes being made available as part of the camp. Ellard says the young hockey players will get to experience high-calibre training with Oilers alumni and training staff.

“We bring out some of our higher level instructors not only within our organization, but we partner with Hockey Canada and we partner with Hockey Alberta. Then we bring some Oilers alumni and some WHL players.”

The clinic is free and available for kids ages seven to 13. Registration is now open and will close April 13. The camp will be held at the Servus Sports Centre from May 25-27.
