It was a sea of jerseys as kids from schools across Lloydminster joined the Humboldt Strong cause.
Both the Lloydminster Public and Catholic School Divisions had a jersey day on Thursday, which was part of an international show of support for the survivors, families and communities affected by the Humboldt bus tragedy.
Two of those students were Grade 6 Paige Webb and Grade 9 Chase Renton from College Park School, who said that the wearing the jersey is very significant for them as young hockey players.
“It’s to show support for Humboldt,” Renton Says, “Just be here for them, show our school and everyone that we are here for Humboldt.”
Webb adds that she feels the same way, and that she’s already seen many of here classmates wearing the jerseys.
Superintendent of Education Scott Woutters says this is a tragedy that everyone in Lloydminster feels, and he was inspired to see all the students coming out to support.
“If you walk the halls of any of our schools, or the schools in the Catholic division, across the country and across North America, you’ll see that same piece and it’s just a show of support, wrapping that support around the community of Humboldt.”
On top of everyone wearing their jerseys, the schools have also be taking donations, which will go to help the families affected.
