As Lloydminster gets ready to commemorate a Day of Mourning for workplace injuries, deaths and illnesses, the Alberta Government is adding new rights for workers.
On June 1, three new Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) rules will come into effect: the right to know potential hazards, the right to refuse dangerous work and the right to participate in their health and safety.
Minister of Labour Christina Gray says that the government will help employers successfully implement these much needed changes through providing information and support.
“Every worker has the right to a safe, healthy workplace. These new laws bring Alberta into the 21st century and align with the protections other Canadian workers already have.”
Changes to OHS were passed late last year and will see workers being protected from harassment and violence, as well as providing protective measures.
Lloydminster will hold their Day of Mourning Friday at City Hall.
