Local family among speakers at annual MS Walk

Brett Coe says he hopes he and his family speaking at the Lloydminster MS Walk will help create awareness surrounding the disease.

MS, or Multiple Sclerosis, is a neurological disease that causes pain, weakness, difficulty moving and tremors, among other symptoms. Canada, and Alberta in particular have some of the highest MS rates in the world, and there is no known cure for the disease currently.

Coe, who is living with MS himself, will be speaking before the May 5th Walk, and says he wants to show people the struggles and triumphs living through MS.

“It can be a struggle at times, but it’s no different than any other life, I would say. It’s a different way of doing things. You’ve just got to be prepared, and don’t give up. ”

The City of Lloydminster has also proclaimed May as MS Awareness Month in the Border City and many local businesses have jumped on to put on events supporting the MS Society of Lloydminster.

Lloydminster MS Society Chapter Manager Patty Milnthrop says that she is absolutely thrilled by the giving spirit in Lloydminster, and hopes to inspire one more big push of walkers to hit the society’s goal before the walk.

“I would like to see 400 walk participants this year, and we’re a little over 300 right now. I’d like to hit over the 400 mark withing the next ten days.

A full list of events surrounding the walk and ways to register can be found on the MS Walks website.
