Construction season has already begun in Lloydminster with various projects getting underway, including the Water and Sewer Main Replacement Program.
On Monday, City Council choose Rusway Construction Ltd. to carry out the project for $2,280,622.00. The program will replace the City’s pipelines in three phases to help with budget costs and to stay on track with the timeline.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that the water mains have been there since the 50’s and have had a few series of water breaks this winter.
“Yes, we have to rip up the entire street they’re going to work at it. We’re going to try to get it back into service as quick as we can because it is a major artery in the City.”
The City will rip up 50 Avenue between 44 Street and 47 Street then 46 Street between 50 and 51 Avenue, at the same time improving those road conditions. Aalbers says the project will take time.
“I ask people for their patience. Please treat the workers with respect, they’re working at it as quick as they can once they get started and we’ll try to get it finished as soon as possible.”
The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of September, 2018.
