Lloydminster RCMP warn motorists about dangers during Easter break

Lloydminster RCMP are asking drivers to keep an eye out for children during the Easter break.

The police say that more children will be in public places because of the school break this week, and that motorists should slow down when passing parks or playgrounds. They say slower speeds can avoid needless tragedies.

They also say that people tend to drive faster because of warmer weather and drier roads, so they encourage parents to remind their children to be careful when playing near roads. The RCMP say parents should also tell their children to wear helmets and padding when riding bikes, skateboards, roller blades or scooters.

“The RCMP would like to remind drivers to expect kids to pop out from behind parked vehicles and to be extra careful in parking lots,” said Constable Grant Kirzinger.  “We ask that parents remind their children to look both ways before crossing a street and only cross at a cross walk.”

They also say that as the weather warms up, drivers should also watch out for cyclists or pedestrians.
