Local business finds possible explosive device

A local business has found a possible explosive device on their property. On Monday, Lloydminster RCMP say they found what looked like to be a grenade in the 47 Avenue and 50 street after receiving a call from the unnamed business.

Lloydminster RCMP Constable Grant Kirzinger says when people come across potential explosives they should contact the police immediately.

“If you think that there is a device that might be explosive the best thing to do is not to approach it and don’t touch it and to contact the RCMP as soon as possible.”

Police secured the area and the Explosive Disposal Unit was called to seize the device. Kirzinger says that they have a special unit that deals with these types of situations.

“When we arrive on scene and there’s a possible explosive device there, our number one concern is for the safety of everyone in the vicinity. Making sure that there’s a safe distance between people and that device and then contacting our explosives unit. They have special training that make them better equipped to deal with such situations. ”

Mounties say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Lloydminster RCMP.
