Border City Petting Zoo set to open this weekend

The Border City Petting Zoo is ready to let Lloydminster and area residents pet some furry friends on Saturday.

Owner of the Petting Zoo Wallace Sauve says there are some new additions to the zoo, as well as some of the of their regular animals.

“Two brand new baby wolves on loaned, come out and hold them and pet them. They’re tiny so they’re really adorable. Then we got lots of baby pot belly pigs, a baby emu, lots of goats and lots of sheep. No baby goats or sheep yet, but they’re coming.”

The zoo will run throughout the summer until the end of September. Sauve says they were hoping to open last month, but due to the weather they had to push back the opening date.

“This spring again it set up back. We like to be open on the 1st, but the last few years it just wasn’t possible with global warming as its been doing it always seems like we’re moving ahead a month.”

The zoo fives miles east of Lloyd on Highway 16 is made for the public and their enjoyment.

“Well the zoo itself is for Lloydminster, for the public and for surrounding areas. We do it strictly for the people. We don’t take a wage me and my wife, we donate our time and our facility and we do all the work,” says Sauve.

Tickets to enter the zoo are $7 each for children, $8 for adults and free admission for kids two and under.
