Lakeland College’s performing arts students will be recognized for their talents during An Evening of Celebration.
Business Facilitator of Performing Arts Mona Smith says the celebration will offer a wide variety of music performances by their students.
“The evening is really an opportunity for our performing arts instructors to celebrate some of their students achievements from the past year. As well, it is an opportunity for us to showcase our talented instructors so the evening is made up of performances by both instructors and students.”
The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Friends of the Bob Mottram Performing Arts Award, which goes to a secondary school band student who is nominated by their band teacher.
Chair of the Board of Governors Darrel Howell says the award was created in memory of Mottram, who was a musician and on the board of the college for two terms.
“It’s given to a student every year, pays for their tuition for the year, which is a significant amount of money. Applicants are made and then Bob’s wife Gwen selects the person that is going to receive the award for the year.”
The award also offers one year of private music lessons at Lakeland for students to further their music learning and technique.
The event is taking place on May 29 at Vic Juba Theatre and tickets are $15 each.
