4-H is celebrating its 101 year in both Alberta and Saskatchewan with the focus being on the next generation of youth in agriculture.
Taking place on June 2 through 4, the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds will be hosting 21 clubs from the Lloydminster area to display their projects, including steer, heifer, light horse and multi projects. Agriculture Manager Sydney Lake says 4-H is a great way for the youth in the community to connect with their peers and learn new skills.
“There’s lots of opportunity to do other things outside of just their clubs. They can go on exchanges, there’s scholarships, there’s trips, all sort of thing where you can interact with people that have similar interests right across the province and the country.”
This year approximately 350 4-H members will participate with over 40 projects being showcased. Lake says the 101 year is focusing on the theme of “The Next Generation.”
“4-H has come a long way in the last 100 years, so now we’re kind of switching gears and looking forward to the next 100. The agriculture industry has really changed over that time and we have the next generation of kids that are in 4-H and that are going to lead us into that next phase.”
Events start on June 2 and will conclude on Monday with the steer, market lamb and mechanized picnic table selling at 2 p.m. For more information on the events and scheduling visit the Lloydminster Exhibition website.
