Lloydminster RCMP reminding drivers about tinted windows

As the summer months are approaching, the Lloydminster RCMP is reminding residents that tints on the windshield and front side windows are illegal.

Constable Grant Kirzinger says having tinted windows can cause several different issues for drivers.

“An inability to make eye contact to ensure safety for other pedestrians and drivers, as well as causing the glass to stay together and not shatter as it’s intended to do.”

Kirzinger adds that tints can also reduce your visibility at night putting other people at risk.

There are various ways to enforce the laws on tinted windows in both Alberta and Saskatchewan, including vehicle defect notice, traffic fines and towing the vehicle.

“In Saskatchewan, it’s a $115 fine with some demerits associated as well. In Alberts, it’s a $78 fine and then for a commercial vehicle, it’s all the way up to $310,” says Kirzinger.
