Lloydminster born and raised artist Sam Lundell is set to release his debut album “Head Hands.”
The 21-year old will be playing his first concert in the City on Thursday evening to kick off the release, singing songs from the album. Lundell says the collection of songs range from alternative rock to pop.
“It kind of opens with a few more pop/soft rock kind of sensibilities and then you hear a few electronic like alternative influences in there.”
For Lundell the biggest thing was trying to bring together all his different influences together into one album. He says the artists that had the biggest impact on his music are Switchfoot and John Mayer.
As for the album title, Lundell says it wrestles with the idea of his inability to get all his thoughts into something tangible.
“I have all these thoughts and things that I hear in my head that I think are really great ideas and then I try and get them out through my hands, I try to put them on paper, I try to get them onto my guitar and I just can’t quite translate it the way that my brain processes it.”
He and his team received the physical copies of the album this week, setting the excitement to a new high.
“It’s kind of a surreal first moment when you see all the different elements of what you’ve been working on the writing, the recording, the artwork, the production on that process gets synthesized into this little few inches by few inches box, it’s crazy.”
His concert will be taking place at MyVictory Lloydminster and admission is $16.29 each. Lundell says there was no question in his mind about doing the first show in the City because of all the support he has received from the beginning.
“It’s amazing to be able to kind of show this work off to that community first and say hey this is the product of your guy’s support.”
His album will be released the following day on June 15.
