Farmers and industry producers are learning basic and advanced pulse growing techniques with Lakeland College.
On June 18th Lakeland College applied research department and Alberta Pulse Growers Zone 5 are having a morning showcase with hands-on demonstration plots of pea, faba bean and soybean agronomy practices for growers.
Crop Research Scientist at Lakeland College Laurel Perrott says the event is targeted towards farmers who are growing the pulses and for industry professionals who are giving information to the farmers.
“They’re going to get to dig in the plots, check out the roots and we’re showing them some quite standard agronomy practices all the way up to some more advanced agronomic practices.”
Perrott says the field school is looking to have a similar turnout to last years inaugural field school.
“This will be our second crop tour/field school that we’re having. We had one last year and it was attended by 50 people so we’re hoping to have a similar turn out this year and we’ve got quite a bit more to show.”
Guest speakers at the event include Laurel Perrott, Vermilion area soybean producer Trent Clark and Pulse Growers research officer Dr. Jagroop Gill-Kahlon.
