City of Lloydminster teams with school’s for Kids of Steel

The City of Lloydminster partnered with the public and Catholic school divisions to have the fifth annual Kids of Steel Triathlon.

The triathlon included single and team events which had the kids competing in running, biking and swimming. Co-Chair of the ATB Kids of Steel Committee Cindy Rekimowich says the event has grown significantly since its inception.

” We had over 830 kids register this year which is up from 560 from last year, we started with 125 kids our first year and it just keeps growing.”

Kids ranging from the age of 4-15 competed last Friday. Over ninety volunteers showed up to give out medals, marshalling the athletes on the course and other ways to help out during the event.

Rekimowich adds how important it is to have the kids physically active and the triathlon gave them a chance to learn a new sport.

“I honestly want to thank our sponsors, we couldn’t do without them, we’ve got our ATB  which is our title sponsor, we have sponsors for each area of the race and then we have refreshment sponsors so the kids have been well fed and our volunteers have been well fed and I  just want to thank everyone involved.”
