Battlefords RCMP warning residents about STARS lottery scams

Battlefords RCMP are reminding residents to protect themselves from scams after receiving complaints of STARS lottery fraud calls.

Scams, where callers are claiming to represent STARS Air Ambulance and telling people that they’ve won new vehicles, as well as cash prizes are making the rounds in the Battlefords. RCMP say fraudsters are manipulating people by falsely claiming that people have won prizes and in return asking for payments to claim the prizes.

Mounties say to protect yourself from these calls to keep in mind that to claim any lottery prize no money is required to be exchanged, people can check with STARS directly to verify if they are a winner on their website and if people do receive a scam call there should be no circumstances in which personal details are given.

RCMP say when receiving a scam lottery call to hang up the phone then record the number of the call and contact them as soon as possible.
