The Olive Tree is one step closer to paying down their mortgage.
The charitable organization announced that they received a cheque for $44,000 last week by the Fred North Foundation. The money will cover this year’s principal payment of their main building in Lloydminster’s downtown. The building houses their thrift store, free community meals and food rescue program.
Executive Director Becky Schille says it’s nice to see that there are people in the community who support the work that they do for residents.
“We do a lot of hauling and we meet a lot of amazing people who are struggling or going through hard times in their lives and sometimes that can wear you down and be hard to deal with. So knowing that people appreciate what we’re doing and that they see the value in what we’re doing is always good to hear.”
Schille says having consistent donations that help with bigs things like the roof over their heads allows them to focus on other things.
“Fundraising as most people are aware is difficult and it takes up a lot of your time. So to know you don’t have to worry about your mortgage payment is amazing for us so we can focus more on reaching out into the community.”
The Fred North Foundation gives financial support to communities and organization who help make their cities a better place.
