Local tattoo shop throws fundraiser for Lloydminster teen

Dark Hour Ink is throwing a flash tattoo event to support local teen Kaylin Neil and her family.

16-year-old Kaylin suffers from Crohn’s disease and has been in Edmonton at the Stollery for four months and has had two surgeries.  Kaylin’s mother Candice Wdowiak-Neil expresses how hard it’s been on her family and how much Kaylin has had to endure in the hospital which includes two bowel obstructions and complications after surgery.

“Well, it’s been hard, I’ll tell you. It costs us about $6,000 a month to run our house. So, it’s been really hard.”

On July 29th, Dark Hour ink will be holding a flash tattoo day and all proceeds will be going towards Kaylin and her family. Co-owner of Dark Hour Ink Desiree Wile is close with the Wdowiak-Neil family and wanted to take the opportunity as a store owner to gather the community to help the family out.

“I just feel I can’t donate. I did donate to the GoFundMe, but I feel there is more that I can do. Being a business owner in this wonderful community I know from a personal experience in a time of tragedy that the community does pull together.”

The GoFundMe for Kaylin has raised around $7,000 since April. Her mother says the family is just trying to not lose their home.

“It actually really sucks to have to ask people for help. It’s so scary, you don’t want to leave your kid and I need my husband here but he has to work.”

Wdowiak-Neil says she has been focused more on her daughter than keeping up with the fundraising.

” I don’t follow the fundraising too close, im more focused on Kaylin. I share them on Facebook if I see them pop up, but I really just appreciate everybody.”
