Lloydminster Rescue Squad annual gala to raise funds for aging equipment

The Lloydminster Rescue Squad is looking to replace aging equipment as they raise funds through their annual gala.

The fourth annual Sirens and Sapphires Gala supports the non-profit organization in continuing to offer their services. Chief Norm Namur says they’re trying to replace some of their older equipment and slowly progressing into newer ones.

“Some of the needs are to update some of our equipment in the hall and on our truck. That’s what it’s largely going to, as well as maintenance and overall funding for the squad to keep us going.”

Last year the gala raised close to $90,000 and Namur says they’re grateful for the support from different community members and businesses. This year’s gala will have entertainment with a band from Edmonton, as well as top-notch decorations and a candy bar.

Namur says the rescue squad usually sees between 70 to 80 calls each year, however, this year has been more active than others.

“This year I think we’re already sitting at 45 and we’re halfway through so I think this year is going to be a little busier. We’re probably close to that 90 to 100 calls this year so it’s keeping us very busy.”

The squad is always looking for more people to join them to increase their base of volunteers. Namur says all people have to do is come down to the hall and have a chat with them.

Tickets for the gala are on sale for $100 each or $800 a table and are available at the rescue hall or online. The event is taking place on October 13 at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds.
