Lloydminster Hospital shares in national award

Lloydminster Hospital has received an award from the Canadian Stroke Congress.
The hospital was honoured along with other rural and small urban hospitals across Alberta with the CSC’s 2014 Co-Chairs’ Award for Impact, for successfully implementing Alberta Health Services’ Stroke Action Plan.
The plan was drawn up by AHS to give stroke patients the optimal quality of care regardless of location.
“Through the use by the hospital’s Emergency Department and Medical Unit staff of standard tools, procedures and training provided through the AHS Stroke Action Plan, stroke patients move more quickly, thoroughly, safely and consistently through the timely steps needed for quality stroke care,” said Lori Worthing, Nurse Manager of Lloydminster Hospital Medical Unit. ““We have really raised the bar here for assessment, treatment, and follow-up of stroke patients.”
The action plan also provides support for patients after leaving the hospital, including expert rehabilitation teams of physical, occupational and recreational therapists, therapy assistants, speech-language pathologists, nurses, social workers, and dietitians.
