The Lloydminster Public School Division is discussing the goals ahead of the 2018-2019 school year.
On Thursday, teachers in the division gathered going over what is to be accomplished this year, celebrating the previous year and to catch up after 3 months off. Director of Education Todd Robinson says there are a number of focuses for the upcoming school year including academics, and the wellness of students and staff.
“Getting more students to graduate, getting more kids by the end of grade three reading at grade level. We talked today about the success of our First Nation, Metis and Inuit students. That was a major theme this morning. We’re proud of reconciliation efforts in our organization and we’re looking forward to doing more of that in the year to come.”
Robinsons believes that there is an important focus on the continuation of reconciliation in the school divison.
“The whole process of reconciliation is about self-awareness and understanding where you fit in that journey of cultural knowing and processing the world. We all have a place in that.”
Between 4,400 to 4,500 kids will be joining the school division this year, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Robinson hopes staff left excited and supported going forward into the new school year.
“We get to help set the directory for the rest of their careers, the choices they make. We do that with the partnership of the parents and the community. If there is a better job out there, I don’t know what it is.”
