Lloydminster bringing back family free skate program

The city is once again offering free access to ice surfaces for this year by partnering with Servus Credit Union. The partnership began in 2016 as a pilot project to offer free skating spaces through 2019.

“The Servus Family Free Skate has proven to be a popular recreational attraction for our residents and regional visitors,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers in a statement. “We express our shared and sincere gratitude to Servus Credit Union for their continued support of activity, health and wellness in Lloydminster.”

The 2018 Servus Family Free Skate will kick off with a launch event at the Servus Sports Centre on September 27. Bank staff will be present greeting visitors with free mittens and hot chocolate.

“Supporting free access for skating encourages physical fitness, but also helps people come together without spending a lot of money. We’re looking forward to seeing many Lloydminster youth and families return this year,” said Servus Credit Union District Manager Sherry Henderson.
