Lone Rock residents continue to raise money for legal fees

Residents in Lone Rock are continuing to raise funds to cover legal costs in their ongoing dispute with the RM of Wilton. Property owners in the hamlet have hired a lawyer and are in the process of putting on fundraisers across the city to pay for the associated fees.

A silent auction is being held for the community at Bo’Diddly’s Pub and Grill in Lloydminster. Resident Horace Holt says they’re still going door to door still collecting donations.

“There’s nothing specific, different things for different people. The main thing we’re trying to ask people is nothing too big nothing too small, anything is better than what we have currently.”

Holt says all the money raised will go to legal fees. He adds that if there is money left over they will donate it to a charity.

“Our biggest fear if we get caught with the lawyer needing money and we don’t have the funds to pay the lawyer so we’re just trying to raise as much as we can.”

So far with fundraisers and anonymous donations, the community has raised about $900. Holt says at the end of the day their goal is to get answers.

“Our town is suffering right now. There are people still scared, running around. We don’t have any answers and we’re trying to get them.”

In August, the RM of Wilton announced that they would be converting the hamlet into country residential properties, which would see each home supplying their own water and sewer systems.

The silent auction is on Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. People can contact Holt at 306-717-6712 to donate.
