The Lloydminster SPCA is in need of dry cat food. The shelter currently has just under 70 kittens in their care.
Executive Director Jon Pushon says the Kitten dry food will give the animals nutrients needed for their diet.
“That’s our number one priority right now. We do have lots of wet food for them so we’re good in that way. We have had so many kittens come in this fall about 70 per cent in our care right now are kittens.”
Pushon says there has been a constant influx of kittens at the shelter this year. The SPCA is asking the community for help. If anyone finds kittens the shelter will help provide the resources until space is available at the SPCA.
“It’s been a funny year. The spring litters that we usually see were quite late this year because of the longer winter. So, what we found is that some of those kittens that were born in the spring that are just coming to that 8 weeks of age, 10 weeks of age are getting spayed, neutered and up for adoption. There has been no break. ”
The shelter is currently at capacity. Kennels are available for animals that need medical attention or a litter of kittens without a mom. Pushon says anyone looking to foster a kitten or donate food can contact the SPCA at 780-875-2809 or visit the shelter on 62 Ave & 67 St.
